The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially introduced new officials to fill positions left vacant by departing members of the National Working Committee and other vacant zonal roles within the party.
Speaking to reporters at the APC's national headquarters on Wednesday evening, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the party, explained that the election of these new officials aligns with the mandate granted to them by the National Executive Committee (NEC) during their recent meeting at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on August 3.
In this reshuffle, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the outgoing National Deputy Chairman for the North, has been replaced by Ali Dalori, the Borno party chairman. Dr. Mary Alile Idele, founder of Sister-To-Sister Empowerment Worldwide from Edo State, now occupies the position of National Women Leader, previously held by Dr. Betta Edu.
Furthermore, elected officers include Garba Datti Muhammad, taking over from Mallam Salihu Lukman as the National Vice Chairman for the North West from Kaduna State. Other newly elected officials include National Legal Adviser Prof. AbdulKarim Abubakar Kana from Nasarawa State, National Welfare Secretary Donatus Nwankpa from Abia State, Deputy National Publicity Secretary Duro Meseko from Kogi State, and Zonal Organising Secretary Ikani Shuaibu Okolo also from Kogi State.
Senator Basiru stated, "Today, we are here to brief you on behalf of our party. We have had our NWC meeting and deliberated on issues, particularly as it relates to our off-season elections in Imo, Bayelsa and Kogi States."
When questioned about the process, Basiru clarified that the unveiling of new officers resulted from an election conducted in accordance with the NEC directive. The date and location for their inauguration remain undecided.
While some disappointment and questions arose among party members about the selection process, the APC aims to ensure its readiness for upcoming elections, with specific strategies undisclosed at this time.
