Pastor in Ogun State Sets Woman Ablaze During Unique Prayer Session


A pastor named Taiwo Odebiyi is accused of setting fire to a 21-year-old woman named Sukura Owodunni during a deliverance session at his Cherubim and Seraphim Maberu Parish in Offin, Sagamu, Ogun State.

The incident reportedly occurred on August 17, 2023, when Owodunni visited the church at the pastor's invitation for a special prayer. The pastor instructed her to buy Amazing Grace perfume, local eggs, and a candle for the prayer. While conducting the prayer, the pastor poured perfume on her and lit the candle. As soon as the candle was lit, Owodunni caught fire, resulting in severe burns on her chest, shoulder, and legs. 

An eyewitness stated that the suspect was promptly arrested by the police led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Abdulfattah Ogunsanya. State Police Public Relations Officer SP Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident, revealing that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances. 

Following the incident, Owodunni was reportedly left to cover her own medical expenses, and she has received medical treatment at the hospital. 

SP Odutola stated that the suspect is in custody, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department after initial inquiries are completed.
