NBA summons Adamawa REC and 'baddest lawyer' to face disciplinary committee

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has lodged a formal complaint with the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee concerning allegations of misconduct involving Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa State, and Ifunanya Grant, also known as "baddest lawyer" on social media, based in Aba.

Yunusa-Ari is being investigated due to his alleged involvement in the supplementary governorship election in Adamawa State. The NBA has brought this matter to the committee's attention.

In the case of Ifunanya Grant, there have been accusations of inappropriate behavior, including sharing explicit images and videos and using drugs, on her social media accounts. The NBA has raised concerns over her conduct and has submitted a petition to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee.

According to Akorede Lawal, the spokesperson for the NBA, these actions were taken after deliberations during the National Executive Committee's monthly meeting, which was chaired by the NBA president, Yakubu Maikyau. The NBA is committed to maintaining the highest standards within the legal profession and is determined to eliminate any negative elements.

While the accused individuals are presumed innocent until the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee completes a fair trial and delivers its verdict, the NBA president has emphasized the importance of maintaining professional conduct within the legal community.

Additionally, the NBA has formed an ad-hoc committee to investigate allegations of sexual assault against Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar.

The NBA has also addressed concerns raised by Justice Flora Azinge, who chairs the State and House of Representatives election petition tribunal in Kano. The association has written to her, requesting further information about allegations of attempted bribery to obstruct the course of justice. The NBA intends to investigate this matter thoroughly.
