Nigerian Navy personnel detained 10 individuals believed to be pipeline vandals who were caught attempting to steal crude oil from the sea in Lagos. The arrests took place on Sunday morning at the Single Point Mooring buoy, a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited facility where tankers unload products. The suspects were found aboard three speedboats equipped with more than 100 50-liter jerry cans and hoses used to siphon the product from the vessel. Commander Kolawale Oguntuga of NNS BEECROFT paraded the apprehended suspects before handing them over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. The suspects were discovered due to electronic intrusion detection technology, and they had equipment such as pumping machines and hoses for their illicit activities. The NSCDC expressed gratitude to the Navy for their efforts and pledged to uncover the backers of the thieves.
