The Lagos State House of Assembly claimed on Monday that there were intentions by unidentified individuals to carry out an assault on its Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, and other lawmakers. This purported scheme is reportedly in retaliation to the recent dismissal of specific cabinet nominees proposed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. During a session on Monday, Speaker Obasa stressed that the Assembly would not succumb to any form of pressure, including coordinated demonstrations, since their actions were in line with the constitution. He mentioned having prior awareness of the potential attack and having received multiple calls about it. The Speaker also disclosed that the Assembly had chosen not to reveal all the information they uncovered during the nominee evaluations, warning against further provoking conflicts. He clarified that their differences with the governor's requests didn't signify a feud with him, highlighting their history of cooperation. Obasa pointed out that both the Assembly and the governor had responsibilities outlined in the constitution, and while the Assembly had turned down certain nominees, they had valid explanations for their decisions. He conveyed that protests and sponsored writings wouldn't alter the Assembly's determinations and urged against fueling conflict.
