Breaking News: Gabonese Military Officials Remove Bongo, Declare Assumption of Authority

On Wednesday, Gabonese military officers made an appearance on national television to declare their assumption of power in the West African nation, according to a report from BBC.

They announced the nullification of the results of Saturday's election, in which President Ali Bongo had been declared the victor.

Identifying themselves as members of the CTRI (The Committee of Transition and Restoration of Institutions), the soldiers stated, "We have chosen to safeguard peace by terminating the current governing regime."

The election commission had reported that Albert Ondo Ossa, Bongo's primary rival, secured second place with 30.77% of the votes. Bongo's team dismissed Ondo Ossa's claims of electoral irregularities.

If successful, this move would put an end to the Bongo family's 53-year grip on power in Gabon.

Further details will be provided at a later time.
